D-Snap / Documentation
D-Snap, in detail
Snapshots of a project folder you can diff and undo, made for working with coding agents
Project brief
D-Snap keeps versions of a folder without asking you to use git. Take a snapshot with one click, or let it take them on a timer or after the folder goes quiet. Then compare any two versions line by line, and restore the whole folder, one file or a single hunk. Every restore takes a safety snapshot first, so a restore can be undone too.
It was built as a safety net for coding agents. Hooks for Claude Code snapshot the folder before and after each prompt, so whatever an agent did can be compared and undone. A review that lists each turn’s changed files, to keep or undo one by one, is being built. There’s a desktop app and a command-line tool, and both use the same store. Its CI runs on Windows and Linux and builds a Windows installer, but nothing is published yet.
What’s included
• Content-addressed, compressed storage, so a snapshot that changes one file stores one file
• Line-by-line diffs between any two versions, or between a version and the folder as it is now
• Restore a folder, a file or one hunk, with a safety snapshot taken first every time
• Claude Code hooks that snapshot the folder before and after each prompt
• Automatic snapshots on a timer or after a pause, with pinned versions and retention for the rest
