Runs on your own hardware
Better Steam Autoupdate
A Windows tray app that has Steam start every pending game update in the hours you choose, so games are ready when you are.
PC players with more games installed than they play in a week.
- IdleWaiting for the next window.
- UpdatingInside a window, queueing pending updates.
- PausedPaused for an hour, until tomorrow, or until you resume.
- ProblemIt can’t reach Steam. The tray menu says why.
At each window’s start, then every 5 minutes
- Skips the run while a game is running, the PC is on battery or the connection is metered
- Queues every eligible pending update, most recently played first, smallest first, or in your order
- Leaves out games set to update only on launch, workshop and shader-only updates, and games you exclude
- Turns off Steam’s download throttling for the window, and puts it back after
- At the end, lets downloads finish, pauses them, or finishes the current one, as you set per window
What it does
Make Steam start pending game updates in the hours you choose.
It drives Steam through the client’s local debugger when Steam runs with debugging on, the same calls the Downloads page makes, and otherwise falls back to editing the games’ manifest files while Steam is shut down, with a journal so every change is put back. It holds off while you’re playing, on battery or on a metered connection. Version 0.1.0 is built and tested against mocks and real Steam library files, but not yet against a live Steam debugger, and there’s no installer to download yet. The source is MIT-licensed.

- 05
