Where Button Box stands today, the work that is scheduled next, and the things it is deliberately not going to do.
Where it stands
The electrical design is done and has been through two adversarial reviews, both of which found real defects that are now fixed: undefined control lines at reset, an SPI bus hazard, a shorted chip-select, a missing USB clock source, and the VBUS sense and reference chain.
The remaining work is what stands between a correct schematic and a board you can actually order.

Grouped by theme and ordered by intent. These are horizons, not dates — nothing on this page is a delivery commitment, and the order can change when a customer gives us a reason to change it.

A bill of materials you can order from
A schematic that is electrically correct is not yet manufacturable. Roughly half the BOM lines are sourced; the rest need real part numbers, and one package on the board is discontinued — no orderable part exists in it, so the footprint has to change rather than the sourcing.
- Manufacturer part numbers and manufacturer fields on every line
- Sourcing the lines that are still placeholders
- Replacing the discontinued shift-register package with an orderable one
- Updating the USB-C footprints for the renamed shield pin

Numbers confirmed against hardware
Two values in the design are calculated rather than measured, and one of them is a current limit. They are being confirmed on a built board before release rather than after.
- Confirming the button LED current against the real parts
- Firmware that disables the IMU’s I2C mode, which would otherwise corrupt the SPI bus
Out of scope
Not on the roadmap
Said plainly, because the alternative is a sales conversation that ends in disappointment. If one of these is the thing you need, Button Box is not the product for it.

The mechanical work is a separate piece. This project is the board and the panel hardware.

It is a design you can build. It is not a product with a stock level.

Every item above corresponds to work tracked in our own issue tracker, and this page is rewritten from that tracker rather than kept by hand. What is not shown: unfixed defects and security work, which belong in the tracker until they are closed, not on a product page.
