Why $5

Fileporter does one small, complete job: drop a file on one machine and it is on the other, over your own network. $5 is what a small, complete job is worth — enough that it is somebody's product and gets maintained, little enough that nobody has to think about it. It is not a trial, a tier or a seat, and there is no second thing to buy afterwards.

The licence

One person, every machine you own.

One purchase covers you, on every computer you personally own or control, on both Windows and macOS, for as long as you want to run it.

What it covers

  • Both platformsThe Windows build and the macOS build are the same purchase, not two.
  • Every machine you ownA tool for moving files between your own computers cannot sensibly be licensed per computer.
  • No expiry, no check-inThe build you have keeps working. It does not phone anything to stay licensed, because it does not phone anything at all.
  • Point releasesFixes and improvements within version 1 are part of the purchase.

What it does not

  • Other peopleA household or a team buys a copy each. At this price that is the simplest honest line to draw.
  • Deploying it for a companyRolling it out across an organisation’s fleet is a different conversation. Ask, and the answer is probably yes.
  • RedistributionThe licence is to run it, not to publish, resell or bundle it.
  • A promise about version 2If there is ever a paid upgrade it will be described honestly at the time, and it will not disable what you already bought.

Before the checkout opens

5 things still outstanding.

Everything below is real work in Fileporter's own roadmap, not a launch schedule. The checkout opens when they are done, and this page will say so.

  1. Outstanding

Two physical machines, on a real network

Everything today is verified against a loopback smoke suite on one machine. Real mDNS, a real firewall, an interface moving between Wi-Fi and Ethernet, and a laptop going to sleep mid-transfer are none of them things a loopback test produces.

  2. Outstanding

    Signed Windows installers

MSI and NSIS packages build today and are unsigned. An unsigned installer greets a paying customer with an operating-system warning, which is not a thing to charge for.

  3. Outstanding

    Signed and notarised macOS builds

The same again on the other platform, plus notarisation, plus the local-network permission prompt working from a signed bundle rather than a development one.

  4. Outstanding

An independent look at the security

Fileporter holds a private key, pins peer certificates and writes files that arrived from another machine. Those boundaries are worth having somebody outside the project check before they are sold.

  5. Outstanding

A delivery route that works while nobody is watching

Checkout, download and licence delivery have to survive a purchase at three in the morning. That means the Stripe payment link, the fulfilment mail and the download host wired together and tested end to end.

Refunds

30 days, no questions.

If it does not work for you, ask within 30 days and the purchase is refunded. No form, no reason required, and no obligation to prove anything.

Software this cheap is not worth arguing about. The refund exists so that buying it is a smaller decision than reading this sentence, and it will be honoured on the strength of the email alone.

The refund policy

Keep in touch

Hear about it once, when it opens

One email, sent when the checkout opens. Not a newsletter, not a drip sequence, and not a list anybody else gets — a reply to yours, once, and then nothing.
